ADA—Several East Central University organizations will be holding a Prosperity Workshop at the United Campus Ministry on April 10. ECU’s programming board (CREW), Alpha Chi and service learning students will be putting on the workshop from 9 a.m. to noon.

"It will be a three hour seminar that focuses on barriers to prosperity in Ada,” a release from ECU said. The first hour of the workshop will center on domestic violence awareness and will be presented by Sandra Pickens, Samantha Moreno, Jamila Morris and Rebecca "Bekka” Rahbusch under the direction of Ms. Charlotte Johns. A resume writing and job application program will take place from 10-11 a.m. and a program on good nutrition will follow with a presentation by the Chickasaw Nation’s Get Fresh program led by Alicson Scott.

"A healthy lunch will be prepared and served,” the release said.

The release said Alpha Chi National Honor Society students came up with the idea during a brain storm about promoting prosperity to Ada residents. After obtaining a small grant from the Association of College Honor Societies, the students decided to put on the workshop.

"Once the idea was settled on, CREW, ECU’s programming board, adopted the Prosperity Workshop as its April Service Saturday Project. Members of Christine Pappas’ American Government service learning class have helped to plan and publicize the event and will also serve as staff,” the release said.

"I am so excited that we were able to get the grant,” said Alpha Chi President Shae Parmer. "This is a great opportunity that we have to join with other organizations on campus to provide a service, not only to other students but also to members of our community.”

The release said the workshop will be free and open to the public and day care would be provided for young children. For more information, call (580) 559-5640.
